Integrating UPS RFC1628

Scenario: You want to configure Desigo CC for connecting to the RFC1628 UPS device.

Prerequisites:

  • The UPS RFC1628 extension is installed and included in the active project. The following extension is also selected automatically:
    • Scripts
  • System Manager is in Engineering mode.
  • System Browser is in Management View.

This extension is covered by license. Check that the required license is available; otherwise, you may not be able to configure and work with this extension.

 

 

Steps:

1 – Create the SNMP Driver
  1. Depending on where you want to add the SNMP driver, select one of the following:
  • Project > Management System > Servers > Main Server > Drivers
  • Project > Management System > FEPs > [FEP station] > Drivers
    NOTE:
    If the [drivers folder] is not available, to create it select the [FEP station] and click New .
  1. In the Object Configurator tab, click New and select New SNMP Driver.
  1. In the New object dialog box, enter a description and click OK.
  • The newly created SNMP driver is added to System Browser, but not started.

 

2 – Create the SNMP Network
  1. Select Project > Field Networks.
  1. In the Object Configurator tab, click New and select New SNMP Network.
  1. In the New Object dialog box, enter a name and description, and click OK.
  • The newly created SNMP network is added to System Browser.

 

3 – Associate a Driver to the SNMP Network
  1. Select Project > Field Networks > [SNMP network].
  1. In the System Management tab, open the Network Settings expander.
  1. From the Monitored by driver drop-down list, select the driver.
  1. Click Save .

 

The version is aligned to the SNMP version as defined in the RFC1628 UPS device.

 

4 – Start the SNMP Driver

The status of a newly created driver is Stopped. To be able to connect, the driver must be started with either Start or Start Conf…

  1. In System Browser, select Project > Management System > Servers > Main Server > Drivers > [SNMP driver].
  1. In the Extended Operation tab, next to the Manager Status property, click Start.
    NOTE: Only for configuration purposes, you can also click Start Conf… to activate the driver without establishing any real connection to the field.

 

5 – Create the RFC1628 UPS Device
  1. Select Project > Field Networks > [RFC1628 network].
  1. In the System Management tab, click New and select New UPS RFC1628.
  1. In the New Object dialog box, enter a name and description, and click OK.
  • The newly created device is added to System Browser.

 

6 – Import the Configuration
  • To speed configuration, make sure the Desigo CC Transaction Mode is set to Simple or the Automatic Switch of Transaction Mode is set to True.
    The automatic switch setting is recommended. Without it, to re-enable the logs, you need to set the Transaction Mode to Logging at the end of the configuration procedure.
  1. Navigate the file system:
    [Installation Drive]:\[Installation Folder]\GMSMainProject\profiles\SNMPDataTemplate\
  1. Copy the file that corresponds to the SNMP device created:
    - Win32_UninterruptiblePowerSupply.RFC1628.2_0.SNMP
    to the following directory:
    [Installation Drive]:\[Installation Folder]\[Project Name]\devices
  1. Select Project > Field Networks > [RFC1628 network] > [device].
  1. In the System Management tab, click Import .
  1. In the Select device to import dialog box, select the SNMP file that corresponds to the appropriate device version.
  1. Click Import.
  • When the import is completed, the device properties are configured in the Properties tab.
  1. In the General Settings expander, enter the IP address in the Host name field.
  1. Click Save .

 

7 – Finish Configuration
