NK8000 Troubleshooting

This section contains NK8000 troubleshooting information.

NK823x Communication Problems

We recommend that you test connections during the configuration process, so you can more easily narrow down the cause of any problems. This is because you may have problems in runtime where no error message is generated.

The NK823x Ethernet Port generated a fault

  • Check power, vital function, and diagnostic LEDs.
  • Use the Ping command to check the connection between the NK823x Ethernet Port and Desigo CC.
  • Check network connection. Select Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt, and enter the following commands:
    • ipconfig /all: Shows comprehensive information about the local computer IP configuration (for example, the IP address).
    • ping n.n.n.n: Lets you check the communication with an IP network participant (“n.n.n.n” is the IP address to check).
    • ping n.n.n.n -t: Lets you continuously check the communication with an IP network participant (“n.n.n.n” is the IP address to check).
    • Netstat: Provides you the information about all established TCP/IP connections.
    • arp -a: Displays the physical address translation table.
  • If connection to NK823x is lost, reset the NK823x Ethernet Port to default IP address and download the configuration again. You can refer to the procedure Downloading the Initial NK823x Configuration from a Service Computer.

The gateway or panel does not respond

  • Check the Local address and Baud rate fields in the gateway/panel configuration. If the local address or baud rate are incorrect, there is no communication in runtime and no error message is generated.

Trouble with the serial connection

  • Check the diagnostic LED. Typical problems of RS232 communication are:
    • Mix of RXD / TXD lines.
    • Line length exceeds the maximum of 15m.
    • Disturbances, caused by ground loops.
  • Solve problems of exceeding line length by using:
    • RS232 line drivers
    • Fiber optic converters
    • RS422 converters

NK823x malfunctioning with Patrol Agent service

  • When special network services are used to export data via WSI from units such as Algorex, Sintony, DF8000, STT, connected to the NK823x –for example cloud services such as the Patrol Agent– the unexpected ReadPropertyMultiple network message causes the NK823x to stop working.
To avoid this problem, you need to force single-read operations on the involved BACnet connections. Note that this setting can slow down the data communication, mainly by duplicating the delay of the alignment phase when the system starts up or the connection is re-established after a line down.
The configuration option to set –in the BACnet device object of the networked subsystems– is the Use only read property that you can find in the Other Settings expander. Proceed as follows:
    • In System Browser, under the NK823x object, select the [Device NK823x] object.
    • In the BACnet tab, open the Other Settings expander.
    • Select the Use only read property check box.
    • Click Save .
    • Repeat these steps for the Device object in all the units connected to the NK823x.
    • Stop and then start again the BACnet driver.
NK823x Configuration Misalignment

When the fire system generates an event, Desigo CC can detect a misalignment with the panel configuration. The source event in Event List helps you to identify the misalignment.

Source Event

Situation

Do the following...

Unidentified

You modified the fire system configuration so that it is no longer aligned with Desigo CC and the NK823x.

Re-import the fire system configuration files into Desigo CC and download the configuration to the NK823x.

Unknown Device

You modified Desigo CC configuration so that it is no longer aligned with the NK823x and the fire system.

NK823x Download Problems

Error Condition

Situation

Do the following...

The firmware download fails to start due to a problem in preparing the firmware files in the NK823x_FW folder.

On a client station, you are downloading a firmware file from a location that is not the shared\firmware\NK823x_FW project folder on the server station.

In this case, the system creates a copy of the new firmware files in the shared\firmware\NK823x_FW folder, from which you will be able to download the firmware again.

If your Windows user account does not have permission to write in this folder, the error occurs.

From the client station, in the security properties of the shared\firmware\NK823x_FW project folder, enable the write permission (or ask your system administrator to do that).

  • Right-click the folder and click Properties
  • Select the Security tab
  • Click Edit
  • Enable the write permission
  • Click OK twice to exit

The configuration download fails to start due to invalid data.

A maximum of 4 downstream connections are supported, including the I2C line. If you configured connections on the 4 COM ports and on the I2C port, the configuration cannot be downloaded.
In the download page, if you try to download an invalid configuration, a dialog box informs you about the problem. From the Extended Operation tab, the download command fails, and an error is logged (see Log Viewer).

Reduce the number of connections and try downloading again.

Firmware version not compatible message in the status bar at the bottom of the screen.

The configuration download fails due to an invalid configuration.

You are trying to download the configuration to an NK823x unit that is not equipped with latest firmware.

Perform the following procedure: Checking and Updating NK823x Firmware and Kernel.

Check Integrity error message in the status bar at the bottom of the screen.

Checksum error in the downloaded file.

The downloaded file is corrupted.

Try to perform the download again. If error persists, contact technical support.
