Configuring Display Rules for Web Applications

For background information, see the reference section.

Create Subfolders for Organizing Display Rules
  • System Manager is in Engineering mode.
  1. In System Browser, select Management View.
  1. Select Project > System Settings > Client Settings > Web Applications.
  • The Rule Editor tab displays.
  1. Click New .
  1. In the New object dialog box, enter a name and description.
  1. Click OK.
  • The new folder is available in System Browser.
  1. Repeat the preceding steps for any other folders you want to add.

 

Create a New Display Rule
  • The librarian has configured a web application library.
  • System Manager is in Engineering mode.
  1. In System Browser, select Management View.
  1. Select Project > System Settings > Client Settings > Web Applications.
  • The Rule Editor tab displays.
  1. Open the Output expander and do the following:
    a. From the Application drop-down list, select the value that corresponds to the external web application to display.
    b. (Optional) Modify any application parameters.
  1. Open the Triggers expander and define the conditions to which the display rule applies:
    a. Click New.
    b. In System Browser, select the Manual navigation check box to retain the Rule Editor tab.
    c. Drag the desired target object from System Browser into the Path field.
    NOTE: In Operating mode, this will cause the rule to display the configured external web application in the Application Viewer tab when the associated object is selected in System Browser.
    d. Configure the other fields in the row to filter by Managed Type, Discipline/Subdiscipline, Type/Subtype, and Function. This will cause the display rule to only be triggered when the target object matches those criteria.
  1. (Optional) – To override the default URL, complete the following:
    NOTE: If enabled, passwords are automatically used on the URL call at the handover point. This may result in a potential cybersecurity risk especially on untrusted clients or those not maintained. This functionality is intended for experienced users and should only be used in secure environments.
  • Application URL – Enter the address of the override URL.
  • Username – Enter the username, if any, for the override URL
  • Password – Enter the password for the given username.
  • Reconfirm – Re-enter the password.
  1. Click Save As .
  1. In the Save Object As dialog box, select the main Web Applications folder or any subfolder under it as the destination where you want to save the new rule.
    a. Enter a name and description.
    b. Click OK.
  • In the General Settings expander, the Application Name field displays the name of the rule. The new display rule object is added to System Browser.

 

View or Modify Display Rules
  • System Manager is in Engineering mode.
  • You created a display rule.
  1. In System Browser, select Management View.
  1. Select Project > System Settings > Client Settings > Web Applications > [display rule].
  1. Click the Rule Editor tab.
  • The General Settings expander indicates the name of the selected display rule. The Trigger expander indicates any conditions to which the display rule apply. Each condition occupies one row, and comprises a set of fields (Path, Managed Type, and so on) defining what will determine the display of the external web application specified in the Output expander.
  1. From here you can do the following to modify the display rule:
  • To add a new condition (row): Drag the desired target object from System Browser onto the Path field or click New.
  • To alter an existing condition: Click its row and then define its fields (such as Path or Managed Type, and so on) as required.
  • To delete a condition: Select its row and click Delete.
  • To modify the external web application: From the Application drop-down list, select the value that corresponds to the external web application to display and modify any of its parameters.
  1. To create a URL link that overrides the link in the associated XML file:
    a. Open the Advanced Settings section,
    b. In the Application URL field, type the name of the URL.
    c. (Optional) In the Username field, type the required username.
    d. (Optional) In the Password field, type the associated password.
  1. Click Save .

 

Delete Display Rules or Folders
  • System Manager is in Engineering mode.
  1. In System Browser, select Management View.
  1. Select Project > System Settings > Client Settings > Web Applications > [display rule or folder to be deleted].
  1. In the Rule Editor tab, click Delete .
    NOTE: Deleting a folder also deletes all the display rules inside it.
  • A confirmation message displays.
  1. Click Yes.
  • The display rule or folder is removed from System Browser.

 

Configure a Display Rule Triggered by Object Selection

To configure a display rule so that a specific external web application is available in the Application Viewer tab when a system object is selected in the Management View.

  • The librarian configured the Web Links library.
  • System Manager is in Engineering mode.
  1. In System Browser, select Management View.
  1. Select Project > System Settings > Client Settings > Web Applications.
  1. Click the Rule Editor tab.
  1. Open the Output expander and do the following:
    a. From the Application drop-down list, select the entry that corresponds to the external web application to display.
    b. (Optional) Modify any application parameters.
  1. Open the Triggers expander and define the conditions to which the display rule applies:
    a. Drag a root node of the Management View from System Browser to the Path field. This creates a new row.
    b. From the Discipline drop-down list, select Fire.
    c. From the Subdiscipline drop-down list, select All.
    d. From the Type drop-down list, select Area.
    e. From the Subtype drop-down list, select All.
    f. Use the equals (=) operators to filter by Path, Discipline/Subdiscipline, and Type/Subtype.
  1. (Optional) To create an override link
    a. Open the Advanced Settings section,
    b. In the Application URL field, type the name of the URL.
    c. In the Username field, type the required username.
    d. In the Password field, type the associated password.
  1. Click Save As .
  1. In the Save Object As dialog box, select the main Web Applications folder or any subfolder under it as the destination where you want to save the new rule.
    a. In the Name field, enter the text DisplayRuleforDMSObjectSelection.
    b. Click OK.
  • In the General Settings expander, the Application Name field displays the name of the rule. The new display rule object is available in System Browser.
