Creating and Auto-Populating the Logical View

Scenario: You want to create the logical view that presents the hierarchical structure of imported devices—for example, area, section, zone, sensor. To do this, you must create the view and import subsystem data that will build up its structure.

Prerequisites:

  • System Manager is in Engineering mode.
  • System Browser is in Management View.

Steps:

1 – Create the Logical View
  1. Select Project > System Settings > Views.
  • The views workspace displays in the Views tab.
  1. In the View Name and View Description fields, enter a name and description for this view.
  1. In the Root node name and Root node description fields, enter a name and description for the root node of this view.
  1. From the Type drop-down list, select Logical.
  1. (Optional) Select the Enable propagation check box, to activate the state propagation from the child nodes to the parent nodes in this view.
  1. (Optional) In the Notes field, enter any additional information.
  1. Click Save .
  • The logical view object is added to System Browser. Its name becomes available in the System Browser drop-down list.

2 – Allow the Update of the Logical View to Reflect Changes in Linked Objects
  1. Select [logical view] from the System Browser drop-down list.
  1. In the tree structure, select the root node of the view.
  • The view builder workspace displays in the Views tab.
  1. Select the Create softlink node check box. (The Link children check box is automatically selected.)

3 – Automatically Populate the Logical View
  1. Select Project > Field Networks > [network].
  1. Select the Import tab.
  1. Click Browse.
  1. In the Open dialog box, select the configuration file you want to import and click OK.
NOTE: Be sure to select a file that contains logical objects.
  • The complete path of the selected file appears in the field next to the Browse button. The Source Items preview displays all the items available in the selected configuration file.
  1. Open the Hierarchies Mapping expander.
NOTE: By default, every hierarchy is assigned to Management View only.
  1. Define the logical view as the target of the import of the objects hierarchies as follows:
    a. In System Browser, select the Manual navigation check box.
    b. From the drop-down list, select [logical view].
    c. In the tree structure, select the root node of the view and drag it to the Logical View field in the Hierarchies Mapping expander.
  • The imported hierarchies of objects will be automatically built according to the logical level.
  1. In the Source Items list, select the items you want to import and move them to the Items to Import list. Use to move all the items.
  1. Click Import.
  1. Click Yes.
  1. When the import completes, in the Import dialog box, click OK.
  • The structure of the logical view is automatically built during the import according to the specified hierarchies mapping.

4 – Update the Logical View to Reflect the Changes in Linked Objects
  1. Select [logical view] from the System Browser drop-down list.
  1. In the tree structure, select the root node of the view.
  • The view builder workspace displays in the Views tab.
  1. Click Update View .
  1. Click Yes.
  • When the update is complete, the tree structure is collapsed in the preview area.
  1. Expand the tree structure in the preview area.
  • Any soft links relevant to new elements linked to the tree structure display in green, while broken links display in red.
  1. To remove broken links, select the soft links in red and click Remove.
