Configuring Event Handling Rules

Scenario: You want to configure a rule to partially automate the handling of certain events.

Prerequisites:

  • System Manager is in Engineering mode.
  • System Browser is in Management View.

 

Steps:

1 – Open the Event Settings Rule Application

You can select an existing event settings rule to modify, or begin configuring a new one from scratch.

  • Do one of the following:
  • To create a new event settings rule, select Project > System Settings > Client Settings > Event Settings.
  • To modify an existing event settings rule, select Project > System Settings > Client Settings > Event Settings > [event settings rule].
  • The Event Settings tab displays.

 

2 – Configure the General Settings of the Event Settings Rule

You must specify the automated actions that will happen when this rule applies.

  1. In the Event Settings tab, open the General Settings expander.
  1. Specify the values for the following fields:
  • Priority
  • On new event
  • On new higher priority event
  • Close treatment when and Timeout (sec)
  • Group and station filters

 

3 – Configure the Event Settings Rule Filters

You must configure at least one filter for the event settings rule—otherwise it will never execute.

  1. In the Event Settings tab, open the Filters expander. Here you can configure when and for what combination of event conditions this rule will run. For details, see Filters of an Event Settings Rule.
  1. Do one of the following:
  • Open the Events expander and specify the combination of events that will trigger the event settings rule. For details, see Events Conditions.
    NOTE: In a distributed system, when specifying the target objects affected by the event, you can only link objects belonging to the local (system) project. Linking target objects belonging to other projects is not allowed.

 

4 – Save the Event Settings Rule
  1. Click Save or Save As .
  1. (Only for Save As) In the Save Object As dialog box,
    a. Select the main Event Settings folder.
    b. Enter a name and description.
    c. Click OK.
